EVALUATION

A TSUNAMI HAS BEEN GENERATED THAT COULD CAUSE DAMAGE ALONG
COASTLINES OF ALL ISLANDS IN THE STATE OF HAWAII. URGENT ACTION
SHOULD BE TAKEN TO PROTECT LIVES AND PROPERTY.

A TSUNAMI IS A SERIES OF LONG OCEAN WAVES. EACH INDIVIDUAL WAVE
CREST CAN LAST 5 TO 15 MINUTES OR MORE AND EXTENSIVELY FLOOD
COASTAL AREAS. THE DANGER CAN CONTINUE FOR MANY HOURS AFTER THE
INITIAL WAVE AS SUBSEQUENT WAVES ARRIVE. TSUNAMI WAVE HEIGHTS
CANNOT BE PREDICTED AND THE FIRST WAVE MAY NOT BE THE LARGEST.
TSUNAMI WAVES EFFICIENTLY WRAP AROUND ISLANDS. ALL SHORES ARE AT
RISK NO MATTER WHICH DIRECTION THEY FACE. THE TROUGH OF A TSUNAMI
WAVE MAY TEMPORARILY EXPOSE THE SEAFLOOR BUT THE AREA WILL
QUICKLY FLOOD AGAIN. EXTREMELY STRONG AND UNUSUAL NEARSHORE
CURRENTS CAN ACCOMPANY A TSUNAMI. DEBRIS PICKED UP AND CARRIED
BY A TSUNAMI AMPLIFIES ITS DESTRUCTIVE POWER. SIMULTANEOUS HIGH
TIDES OR HIGH SURF CAN SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE THE TSUNAMI HAZARD.

THE ESTIMATED ARRIVAL TIME IN HAWAII OF THE FIRST TSUNAMI WAVE IS

                     1119 AM HST SAT 27 FEB 2010

MESSAGES WILL BE ISSUED HOURLY OR SOONER AS CONDITIONS WARRANT.

Talking with Mr. Friend

Mr. Friend
My deer friend stops by every now and then for a talk. He’s friendly but not as friendly as Buddy who past on a few years back. Friend doesn’t want to go for hikes with me like Buddy did. He is a real character that’s for sure. All the deer have unique personalities. Some are real shy while theirs others like friend who walk up to you or come up to you to see what your doing outside. In the summer months when I get outside early he’s always there. If I sleep in he will come up on the porch and look in the window to see where I am. Buddy, his father did the same thing. It’s real nice making friends in the forest. They aren’t scary things like most people think. The only creatures I’m hesitant about trying to get close to is the mountain lions and bears.
I was sitting at the desk on the computer and movement out of the corner of my eye caught my attention. I saw a mountain lion near the picnic table. So I grabbed my camera and stepped on the porch taking pictures. The mountain lion looked over at me and started moving backwards behind this bush. Then I noticed the other mountain lion about 15 feet from me under the plum tree. He wasn’t moving until I looked at him. I pointed the camera at him and he moved up the hill behind a ponderosa pine tree. He would poke his head out to see what I was doing. I really didn’t feel anything at the time. I wasn’t scared or excited something the lions would key on. I just kept taking pictures of them. They slowly moved to the back part of the yard by the fence and started walking slowly up the hill. There were turkeys up there and they sure saw the lions. I could hear them making noise talking to each other but they weren’t moving. I guess they wanted to keep their eyes on them to make sure where they were. Then one of the lions darted towards them and the turkey took off straight up and flew to the trees across the valley and into trees where they waited until it was safe. The lions walked away slowly looking around checking out the place. I saw them a few days later when I was watering and they were getting a drink of water. Again I came out with the camera and they stood there looking at me bending over to drink the water and lay in it to cool off. It was one of those really hot summer days. Again I wasn’t showing any fear. We were all looking at each other trying to understand.
The bears are rather slow moving as they walk around but they can really move if they have to and I wouldn’t want to try to out run them because I would lose.
I think it was the first bear I saw here over by an apple tree. He was eating apples that had fallen on the ground. The seven sister a family group of female turkey saw the bear and charged him. They were making all sorts of noise and flapping there wings. I was real surprised seeing that. The bear took off running from the turkey. What’s interesting about the turkeys is they would hang around here while I was walking around working on the yard or taking pictures. They saw me as a friend. I could get within about 15 feet of them before they would move other wise they would see me walking towards them and stay right there until I got so close.
There was Blonde a big old female deer who was very nice. She matted down the tall grass for a bed for the night. She also came on the porch where she had some of Kitty’s food then got a drink of water. I put another scoop of cat food on the walkway. She walked up to the pile of cat food and sat down. She didn’t eat it all but just a few bites. It was water and drink before she laid down for the night. Doesn’t that sound like all of us before we go to bed at night?
This last Christmas Eve a your full sized bear came on the porch and laid down. There wasn’t anything to eat. I guess it felt good to lay on carpet out of the wind. The porch is dry since there’s a roof so there isn’t any dew. Maybe that’s what attracted him. He did sort of eat my hummingbird feeder. He didn’t chew it up but held it and drank the sugar water. I couldn’t see him at first but I did see the red hummingbird feeder moving around lit up with the porch light. After he left I went out to get the hummingbird feeder to see the damage. The bear was laying down out in the field. I couldn’t see him laying there about 60 feet away. When he heard me making noise it startled him and he took off running. He hit the chain link gate moving it to the center of the road. I heard him on the other side of the creek going through the brush very fast breaking branches as he went.

Why not buy the Opium?

Instead of letting the Taliban buy the opium for dirt prices from the farmers in Afghanistan which they rely on to live. Buy up the opium and make it into drugs for third world countries. It would help bring down the price of pain killers for everyone. Right now the drug companies have set prices and should be looked into for antitrust.

Paying the farmers two or three times what the Taliban is paying would bring them over to your side. They would live better. The drug prices around the world would go down. Third world countries could get the drugs for free or close to it where they couldn’t afford them before.  It would take the drugs out of the hands of the narco traffickers taking the drugs off the streets. Everyone wins.

Is Katie Couric making you depressed

 image

If you noticed the news lately Katie tells you how you feel according to her poles. Every day it’s something, how we vote, how bad we have it, asking crazy questions to her talking heads. Those talking heads, well you can buy anything you want to hear. Unfortunately it’s all depressing things the way Americans feel. Nothing like the bad news day after day. No one ask me how I feel and how I vote and if I can see through the media hype. What I don’t understand is why Katie and CBS always gets some Bozo to tell the viewers the bad parts of everything. When it came to the health bill they got those drunk GOP leaders that only say no to defeat the democrats just because without a valid reason. Are big interests influencing the news to give one party a boost. Katie never talks about the good parts of the health bill, just the wankers that want to stick some sort of bizarre addition to the bill which makes the bill worse and not serve the people. Does CBS really serve the people are make the people confused to vote one way, the wrong way

What about that next storm

Turned on the TV today to watch the Weather News. Really bothered me seeing that the storm clouds off the coast had a sign over the storm clouds saying, “SNOW.” Going to have to stock up one things so I don’t run out. Last time I was snowed in for a week without power and phone. Was a real drag, no computer and internet for a week. Stock up on batteries after that. Bought more LED flashlights. So now I have 5 LED flashlights that run on AAA batteries. What I like about the LED flashlights is they work for a real long time. As I was checking out more expensive flashlight I notice that one had a LED that was about 3/8ths of a inch square. That must be bright and use some power. It was a a discount store so it was around $10 dollars or so. I seen a cool lantern that had a conic shaped parabolic mirror. The LED’s were facing upwards into the mirror, this made the light spread out to the side. I bought a small on with the same idea from Wal-Mart for $5 dollars. It’s a handy little one with magnets in the base which will hold the lantern to a metal surface and support the lantern.

So I’m ready. Batteries in the portable radio and spares. Extra canned and dried food. Want to find those boxes of milk that you don’t need to refrigerate. I’ve checked a couple stores so far and they didn’t have them. If my laptop had one of those trick internet things that plug into you USB port and connect to the internet I’d be set. Need to figure out how to make the UPS work for more then turning off the computer. Be nice to hook then up to a 12 volt car battery so the UPS units would stay on longer. Give me a little AC power. You know, need to blow my hair dry.

Desktop Working

Finally got my desktop computer working again. Been a real headache and a lot of reading. Found that things in the TEMP file needed to be deleted. Had those bogus files appearing again. Deleted all the files in the TEMP directory and now it runs fine. Got rid of all the Temp internet files too. Were a lot of those too. I hate those files with nothing it them. Increased the drive space by deleting directories where Microsoft installed a program and left it there. Don’t understand why programs that were unpacked weren’t deleted after they were done installing instead of sitting there taking up space. I have the compressed file which I’ll same. I could make a disk of the uncompressed files but why. So happy that I have one computer that’s running Windows Live Mail. Hard to play around with that to get all the accounts working and be able to sign in. Not sure what that was about. Been having problems with Internet Explorer 8 for some reason but it works for a while. I like Firefox that doesn’t crash my internet connection. What ever the install program from windows that’s popping up goes to Windows Live Writer.
